The installation is divided into three steps:
Installation of the GMCSTARS Agent On Your MVS System. The GMCSTARS distribution file is available on the Global Maintech FTP site. It must be downloaded and expanded. Four files will be transferred to your system via TSO commands. An authorized library and two other data sets must be allocated. In addition, a procedure will be placed in a PROCLIB so the GMCSTARS program can be started as a started task.
Preparation of the VCC System. The VCC system configuration must be modified to add GMCSTARS agent definitions. The VCC #startup.scr script must be modified to start one copy of the gmcstars.scr script at startup. VCC must be restarted. The /etc/snmp/snmptrapd.conf file must be modified and provision must be made to start snmptrapd during Linux boot.
Customization Of the GMCSTARS Parameters. At a minimum the MANAGERS member of GMCSTARS.PARMLIB must be modified to define the IP addresses of all VCC servers that will receive GMCSTARS traps. The system's time zone must also be defined. At a later time, it may be desirable to define messages that are to be sent to the manager, even though they don't meet the default criteria.
Customization Of the gmcstars_exit.scr GCL Script. This step is optional. By default GMCSTARS sends all action messages and WTORs to its managers. You may wish to ignore some of these, change their text or even change the name managers, customize alert colors or even change the name of the source system. The gmcstars_exit.scr script allows this to be done.
It is normal to install GMCSTARS in stages, allowing its default behavior to begin handling messages and then customizing it as your needs become more apparent.
